Mandrills are rainforest dwelling primates who eat insects and plants. They are preyed upon by leopards and are incredibly colorful! Their butts are a mixture of hot magenta, violet, & blue. Amazing!
I dressed up as one for halloween and used the opportunity as a photoshoot for my poster for Commune. This month Commune is raising awareness about tobacco companies testing products on animals. Monkeys, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, and other living creatures have been unfairly and inhumanely subjected to tests including inhaling tobacco smoke for 6 hours a day for 90 consecutive days, having tobacco tar spread on their skin (causing skin peeling and development of tumors), and surgically implanting tubes in pregnant rhesus monkeys "in order to subject them to a continuous flow of nicotine for the last four months of their pregnancies. A few days before full term, experimenters cut the fetuses out of the mothers and killed and dissected the preterm babies in order to determine the effects of nicotine exposure on their bodies." Belgium, Germany, and the UK have all banned animal testing for tobacco products and it is totally possible for the US to do the same! Learn more HERE and if you must smoke cigarettes, buy a brand with a policy against animal testing.
